Irrigation Peak Load Control

The Load Management Program is intended to provide savings to participating customers and reduce wholesale power costs to Northwest Rural Public Power District.  The Load Management program will reduce the amount of run time available for an irrigation system, therefore all participants need to consider the following when determining whether to participate or not: 

Water Quantity - Delivery System (pivot) reliability- Crop rotation & water requirement- Water restrictions- Potential Savings vs. possible yield reduction- Inconvenience

Program # 1:  Radio Controlled Program

  • Controlling will be done in groups 
  • Control days will be scheduled, including Saturdays and possibly Sunday.
  • Every other day controlling for the billing months* of May, June and September-as needed.
  • Every third day controlling for the billing months* of July and August-as needed.
  • $200 fee for removal from program in May and June.
  • One time temporary removal per system at no charge for maintenance or moving.
  • $50 fee per time for subsequent temporary removal.
  • $500 penalty and a $200 disconnect fee for any Control Equipment found to be altered or made inoperable in any fashion.  This system/account and all other systems/accounts under the same customer's control will be removed from the program.  Participation in future Load Management/Control programs may not be allowed.
  • Savings of $3.60 per generated KW waived per billing month.
  • Annual savings of $900 on average (based on 2007 average KW)
  • Annual savings of $830 on average (based on 2008 average KW)
  • Annual savings of $800 on average (based on 2009 average KW)
  • Auto-restarts are required to qualify for the program.

            5 Month Program:

  • Program will be for the months of: May, June, July, August & September
  • Annual Facility fee due in the spring.
  • A portion of the monthly demand charge will be waived for each of the five months of the program a bill is generated but monthly demand charges are due for the months of April and October if a bill is generated.

                Program # 2:  Voluntary Program

  • Off 24 hours (6am to 6am) one day a week (Monday thru Saturday)
  • Minimum of 750 KW on NRPPD system must be signed up for program to be available.
  • Savings of $2.00 per generated KW waived per billing month*
  • Consumer can pick day off but final determination will be made by Northwest for program balance. 

 *BILLING MONTH

          Billing month is the period between monthly meter readings recorded by Northwest Rural personnel.
